The Upper Dolpa to Mustang Trek (21 Days) is a rare and highly remote trekking expedition in Nepal that connects two of the most isolated Himalayan regions Upper Dolpa and the culturally mystical Mustang District. This long-distance adventure is considered one of the best off-the-beaten-path treks in Nepal, offering an extraordinary combination of untouched natural landscapes, ancient Tibetan-influenced culture, high mountain passes, and deep Himalayan wilderness.

Unlike more commercial trekking routes such as Everest or Annapurna, this journey takes you far beyond modern infrastructure into regions where traditional lifestyles, Bon and Buddhist heritage, and centuries-old mountain settlements are still preserved in their original form. The trail passes through rugged valleys, remote yak-herding villages, alpine forests, and high-altitude desert terrain, making it one of the most diverse trekking experiences in the Himalayas.

A major highlight of this expedition is the exploration of Shey Phoksundo Lake, Nepal’s deepest and most stunning turquoise lake, located inside the protected area of Shey Phoksundo National Park. From here, the trail gradually ascends into the high passes of Upper Dolpa before descending toward the dramatic landscapes of Mustang, often referred to as Nepal’s “hidden desert of the Himalayas.”

This Upper Dolpa to Mustang trekking route is designed for experienced trekkers who are physically fit and mentally prepared for long walking days, high-altitude conditions, and limited facilities. Due to its remoteness, the trek requires camping support in many sections, making it a true Himalayan expedition rather than a standard teahouse trek.
